The Bulldog Orchestra program started in 2017 school year. As a new program we are working to establish a tradition of excellence that our community will be proud of. In this short time the program has grown to service 6th through 8th grade.
Accolades:
2020: Rating of "Excellent" at the State Concert Performance Assessment (CPA) event. In 2022, 2022: Rating of "Excellent" at the Carowinds Festival of Music.(CFOM)
2023: Rating of "Excellent" at State CPA
2023: Student earns a seat in the All-Region Orchestra
2024: Rating of "Excellent" at State CPA (Rated "Superior" in Sight Reading)
2024: Rating of "Excellent" at CFOM.
We have had several students earn placements in All-Region Orchestra starting in 2018 with our first student in program history to earn a chair. This past academic year we had two earn placements in the ensemble. This included our first ever student to earn a place in the ensemble in consecutive years as well as our first violinist in program history to make it.
Throughout their course of study in The "Academy Orchestra", students will learn musicianship skills to help them be ready the demands of high school orchestra. We further work to ingrain in our students the skills identified by the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
About the Director
Mr. Rogers is very excited to be the Orchestra and Guitar director here at Cyril B. Busbee Creative Arts Academy. He began his teaching career in 2015 as the Director of Orchestra and Guitar at Brookland-Cayce High School. In 2019 he was transferred to be the full time director for Orchestra and Guitar at The "Academy". Prior to his appointment with BCHS, Mr. Rogers performed at different events on saxophone and clarinet. Mr. Rogers has made guest appearances with The United States Army Field Band, the Orchestras of Charlotte, N.C., Fayetteville, N.C., and Florence, S.C. Mr. Rogers obtained his Bachelors of Music Performance at Winthrop University in 2009 and in 2017 obtained his Masters in Music Education from The University of Southern Mississippi.

A blast from the past! This is a picture of our very first Busbee Orchestra students from when the program started. We started with two classes in sixth grade. Now we have students in grades six through eight!
