About the Academy Bands

About the Academy Band Program:

The Academy Band is a comprehensive three-year music education program dedicated to musical excellence, behavior, and attitude. We provide the musical needs of each student, as well as the school and community.

The Academy Band program consistently earns the highest ratings at local and state competitions. Students in the Academy Band program regularly earn spots in honor bands and region bands. For the past five years the Academy Bands have had the most students in the district earn a spot in the Lexington 2 Honor Band Clinic.

Our Director:

Hunter Reese is in his eighth year of teaching band at the Academy. He is very proud to teach at the school where he first found his passion and love for music!  As an educator, Mr. Reese wants his students to grow in the craft and art of making music as well as help them develop into independent and capable young adults. In 2023, the Academy Winds, BCAA's top-performing ensemble, earned a Superior Rating for the first time since 2001. For the last three years 2022, 2023, and 2024 the Academy Winds has earned a Superior Rating at the Carowinds Festival of Music.

Mr. Reese graduated from Anderson University in 2017, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Administration from Columbia College. Outside of school, Mr. Reese still performs on the instrument he started to learn at BCAA, the saxophone. In his free time, Mr. Reese enjoys spending time with his wife, Sara, and their spoiled dachshund Pepper.
