Welcome to Academy Theatre 2024-2025!
Greetings! My name is Shirley Mack-Bell. I am honored to serve as the theatre director at the Academy for a seventh year. As a theatre educator, I strive to build a theatre program where students demonstrate an appreciation for the performing arts - while being mindful of social skills that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.
After 28 years as an IT Consultant at the State Department of Education, I retired to continue my education. I earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Theatre from the University of South Carolina and a Master's of Arts in Teaching from the University of South Carolina. I started writing and directing plays in 1995. I'm an active member of a local theatre company. When I'm not teaching my Academy students, I'm in the community leading acting workshops, working as a backstage crew, or on the stage performing. During my leisure time, I enjoy sitting on the porch while reading a book, gardening, attending theatrical productions, and traveling.
