WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Lexington Two is announcing a two-week return to remote learning, from January 4-15, following winter break amid COVID-19.
Classes will be remote for all pre-K-12 students enrolled in in-person instruction. Students will still have school/instruction, but all learning will take place virtually. Those enrolled in the full-time Lexington Two Virtual Academy will not be affected.
Students are scheduled to return to five-day face-to-face instruction on Tuesday, January 19, following the MLK holiday on Monday, January 18.
Lexington Two’s decision was made in anticipation of a surge in cases following the winter break, mirroring the district’s experience not long after the end of Thanksgiving break. District officials hope the temporary return to remote learning will slow the exposure of students and staff to COVID-19.
The district does not make decisions about shifts in instruction lightly, knowing how they affect students, staff and many others. We have heard from stakeholders on both sides of the issue, from those who believe Lexington Two should remain fully virtual to those who say we should be in-person five days a week. Our goal, however, remains five-day in-person instruction, in the safest environment possible, supported by data and guidance from a number of internal, local and state resources.
