Good afternoon everybody.  I am posting this early so that you may get ahead if you want to.  Please note that this assignment is not due until Tuesday (5/11/21).  Please make sure that you look ahead in your book to page 34 to get a feel for the C Major scale.  If you are videoing yourself for this assignment and uploading it to Google Classroom you need to do the following:
1. Perform #139 on page 34.
2. Make certain that you appear on screen.
3. Make sure that you are positioned so that I can see your bowing hand (with your fingers on the bow) as well as your left hand on the fingerboard.*
*You should not be playing while facing the camera, you should be facing to the side.  If I cannot see the face of your instrument, please re-record.
You will be graded using the following criteria:
1. Tone (20 pts)
2. Correct Notes (20 pts)
3. Steady Beat (20 pts)
4. Correct Rhythms (20 pts)
5. Intonation (20 pts)

Good morning everybody.  Today you should be practicing your instruments but sometimes we need to have a fun piece of music.  Therefore, there is a bit of a change for today. Please fill out the Google Form below.

3. Is your bow parallel to the bridge or is it slanted?
*Slanted bows earn a deduction of 5 points.

*A small squeak here or there is expected at this time but try to minimize the amount of squeaks that your bow makes by keeping your bow parallel to the bridge.

Let's face it, one of the hardest parts of any piece of music is the "rest". One of my old teachers said that a long time ago and I find it to be true. It is easier to start playing and keep playing with only small amounts of rests than to have to sit there to count multiple rests. The more resting we do, the more likely it is we will, "get lost in the rests". So, it is important to really know the values of our rests. Please do the following:
1. View the lesson on Rest Duration.
2. Draw six quarter rests, 6 half rests, and six whole rests on a piece of paper.
3. Take a picture of your work using your chromebook.
4. Upload your picture to Google Classroom from this assignment page.

Good morning everybody. I apologize for the delay in getting this posted but I could not get these videos to upload and transfer correctly. This assignment should not take more than 20 minutes.
Please do the following:
1. Please view the videos on fingerboard mapping for your specific instrument.
2. IF you do not have your instrument, please view the video on what to do if you have no instrument. It is literally titled "whatifnoinstrument". Sorry for not having spaces there but as many of you may know, when you give a file a title on the computer, the computer has an easier time processing and filing that item. When you allow spaces then it actually can create small fragments in your computers memory and causes it to slow down just slightly. Over time that adds up to a lot of lost processing power.
3. Make your own video of you mapping your fingerboard.
4. BE NICE TO YOUR PEERS. Please do not post any negative, defamatory, or hurtful messages. Remember, you need to work with these people for quite some time and you never know who could help you in the future.

Good morning everybody. I hope that your Wednesday is off to a good start. In a little while I will be posting a video on setting up the left hand for each instrument. Your job will be to do the following:
1. Please complete the morning check-in for attendance purposes.
2. Please view the videos on setting up the left hand when they are posted.
3. If you have your instrument take a video of yourself setting up your left hand on the fingerboard of your instrument.
4. If you do not have your instrument you will need the following depending upon what instrument you play. You will then take a video of yourself putting your left hand in position as I will demonstrate with one of these items below.
A. If you play violin or viola, you will need either the roll that toilet paper wraps around or a stick that is about the same size around as the neck of your instrument.
B. If you play cello that same roll that toilet paper wraps around will do very well.
C. If you play Bass, then you will need the roll that toilet paper comes on.

Good afternoon everybody. It has come to my attention that we may be a bit confused about what is needed for the course. To try to help get everybody going I am putting it all under this tab. It will be an assignment. If you think you will have difficulty meeting this deadline or will have difficulty in getting any of the required materials, please contact me as soon as you become aware of this need. Students will need to bring their instruments, wire frame stand, shoulder rest (or rock stop if playing cello or bass), rosin, bow, case, and Essential Elements for Strings Book 1 (for their instrument) by the due date which is Thursday October 1, 2020.
