Identifying Notes on all Strings in Google Classroom

Identifying Notes on all Strings

Good Afternoon! We are back and that means it is time to knock the rust off and get our brains in gear. That means we need to practice identifying the notes on the staff. You may do this twice and I will take the best grade of the two. Once you are done send me your validation code using a private comment. Then you need to start practicing "Rockin' Strings", "Surprise Symphony Theme", and "Dinosaur Damage".
Don't forget to use your resources for this one.
¡Buenas tardes!

Notes on the E String and C String

Good Afternoon.  We are still working on identifying notes on these two strings. Today you will have a quick practice with these strings. There are only ten questions but you may still do this up to 3 times. Send me your validation code or validation link after you have finished. This one is timed though so you will need to work efficiently.

Due:

G Major Scale in Google Classroom

G Major Scale

Good Morning!
This is being posted to give people time to get ahead and be ready for the next scale to pass off. This scale can be found on page 27 of our Essential Elements book 1 books.
You will have the option to play this in person or submit a recording. Please remember that we want the beat to be steady and play using your best playing position.
A fact to consider. All scales are constructed using a specific pattern of whole steps and half steps. When one note is changed in the progression, the nature of the scale is changed. I do allow for quick adjustments while playing though.  If you realize you made a mistake as you are playing and make a quick adjustment, it will be ok.

Due:

Quiz: Notes on the E string and C string in Google Classroom

Quiz: Notes on the E string and C string

1. Put your head down and have some rest
2. Work on work for other classes.
3. Read quietly.

This assignment is timed at two minutes a piece so please make certain you have your resources in front of you if you need them.

Auditions for CPA in Google Classroom

Auditions for CPA

Good afternoon everybody. As we get closer to CPA and to Carowinds I need to make absolutely certain that we are 100% ready to compete.  We got within 3 points of earning a Superior last year and I would really like to help make that happen for you, our students, this year.  With that in mind, I am holding an audition for students going to CPA. Below are the excerpts that you will need to play.  You may turn in your audition video sooner than the due date but no later than the due date. I need to get instrumentation settled and have the parts be as balanced as they possibly can be.
You will audition for me in person or you will submit a separate video for each excerpt.

*Remember, if you do not qualify to go to CPA then you still need to practice these excerpts because there will be another round of auditions for students who want to go to Carowinds.

Ode to Joy in Google Classroom

Ode to Joy

Good Afternoon. As I mentioned in class, this is being put here because I really need to get caught up on grading Ode to Joy. Please make sure that you record this evening and upload the video to this assignment page today or tomorrow. That way I can listen and get the grade updated on PowerSchool. I know that our parents want to know how you are doing. Things to remember for the video.
1. You must appear in the video and be in focus.
2. I need to see your right hand and left hand.
I am including an electronic copy of the paper rubric that I am using to grade you so that your parents can clearly see what the criteria are.

What is the difference between a tie and a slur?

You may use your resources to help you figure out the answer.

Virtual Learning Session 1/9/24 in Google Classroom

Virtual Learning Session 1/9/24

Good Morning everybody. I hope you are staying safe and warm at home.  Today you will have several options for your assignment:
1. Early Bird Bonus: Students will perform Ode to Joy from page 23 of the book. Other versions will be accepted such as those being performed with the Strings Project currently. Please state which one you are doing in your video.
Students completing this option will get a 10 point cushion for performing this one early!**** Even if you don't choose this one we will have this played for a grade on Friday so please do practice this one.
Video Guidelines:
A. You MUST appear in your video. (If I cannot tell it is you playing, I cannot offer credit.)
B. I need to see both your right and left hands.
Option 2. page 32 exercises 126 and 127 of the Essential Elements book.
Option 3. Your favorite part of either Beethoven Lullaby, Sword Dance, Wood Splitter Fanfare, or Golden Grove.
Option 4: You may practice identifying intervals in music by following the link below. This is a cool option because many music students do not get to practice this skill until they get to college. If you learn them early then you are one up on the competition. Because this is a new skill I will not take points from you if you get an answer wrong.  I am more interested in the process of you learning and you sending me the validation link or validation code from musictheory.net to prove you participated in the activity.
There are three options:
1. Unison (The same note is played twice.)
2. Minor 2nd (Think the melody of Jaws or the first few measures of Baby Shark.)
3. Perfect 5th (Think the opening of "Star Wars''.)

(Si no puedo saber si estás jugando, no puedo ofrecer crédito).
B. Necesito ver tu mano derecha e izquierda.

Practicing the notes on the G String

11/3/23 Mr. Rogers is out of office

Good afternoon everybody. I recognize that sometimes copies on paper come out fuzzy or may even be too small to read. I am posting the assignments here so that they will be as easy to see as possible. I hope that you all have an awesome day!

Sincerely,
Mr. Rogers
