Principal's Message

Dear Busbee families,

I am very excited to serve as your new Principal at The Academy! Before becoming the Assistant Principal, I was a math teacher for 17 years.  The Academy holds a special place in my heart because I have taught many students and their siblings and still keep in touch with many of them today.  Some of my former students are now teachers at The Academy!

We have been working hard this summer to get ready for the upcoming school year!  Teachers have already started meeting and planning, and our second round of new furniture will arrive in the next few weeks!  PRIDE Academy will be held before school begins.  This is a time where we bring in all of our rising 6th graders and show them around campus and give them tips on how to survive middle school.  We only want the best for our students!

At The Academy, we provide many learning opportunities.  Our Arts Magnet program gives students options to explore band, chorus, dance, drama, strings, and visual arts.  The Honors Art class and the Performing Arts Company in grades 7 & 8 (PAC) are opportunities for students to specialize as a year-long major in art, dance, drama, or chorus.   Some other opportunities for students include participating on the Archery Team, Student Council, Jr. Beta Club, and our sports teams. This past year we sent our 6th grade students on an overnight trip to Camp Leopold, and our PAC students were able to experience Broadway in New York City! We plan to have more fun learning experiences in the new school year.

We strongly believe that it takes EVERYONE to help our students grow and become confident and productive citizens.  Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns or if you want to know more about The Academy!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Smith Hucks
Principal
