Auditions for CPA

Good afternoon everybody. As we get closer to CPA and to Carowinds I need to make absolutely certain that we are 100% ready to compete.  We got within 3 points of earning a Superior last year and I would really like to help make that happen for you, our students, this year.  With that in mind, I am holding an audition for students going to CPA. Below are the excerpts that you will need to play.  You may turn in your audition video sooner than the due date but no later than the due date. I need to get instrumentation settled and have the parts be as balanced as they possibly can be.
You will audition for me in person or you will submit a separate video for each excerpt.

*Remember, if you do not qualify to go to CPA then you still need to practice these excerpts because there will be another round of auditions for students who want to go to Carowinds.

Interval Identification in Google Classroom

Interval Identification

Good Morning! Today you are going to identify intervals. Minor 2nds and Unison intervals. You may take this assignment up to three times and I will take the best grade out of three attempts. Once you have finished please send me your validation code or validation link. This will be a low category grade.

Virtual Assignment 1/9/2024 in Google Classroom

Virtual Assignment 1/9/2024

Good morning everybody. I hope that you are staying safe and dry at home. Today you will be recording yourselves performing on your instruments. You need to record and submit two videos.
Video 1: One scale of your choice in two octaves. Please tell me what scale it is.
Video 2: You may choose to play selections from the following pieces:
1. Sword Dance (Play where you have the melody.)
2. Sunflower 12 measures where you have a part you think is interesting.
3. Wood Splitter Fanfare 8 to 10 measures where you feel you have an interesting part.
4. Beethoven's Lullaby 8 measures where you have an interesting part.
You need to play two minimum.

For those of you who do not have your instruments (and yes I did check the instrument shelves before leaving) please follow the link below. We are going to do something a pinch different. You are going to work on identifying intervals by ear. You don't have to get them all correct. This is a new skill we are working on so it is practice. You will get credit so long as you send me your validation link or validation code. Here there are only a few possibilities. They are as follows:
1. Unison (The same note is played both times.)
2. Perfect 5th (Think of the tune from "Star Wars".)
3. Minor 2nd (Think Jaws or the beginning of Baby Shark.)

1. All-Region audition music.
2. Concert music
3. Essential Elements Book 2 pages 7-9.

Note Identification OR Instrument Practice in Google Classroom

Note Identification OR Instrument Practice

Hello everybody.  I hope you are staying safe.  You will have several options for your virtual assignment today.
Option 1. Click on the link below to practice identifying the notes on the staff.
A. Once you are done click on the "view report" button.
B. Type in your name next to the "sign report" button.
C. Click on the "Sign Report" Button.
D. Click on "Copy link" or "Copy Code"
E. Paste your code or link in a private comment.
Option 2:
You may make a video of yourself practicing any of our music from class and upload it to Google Classroom by clicking on the "upload file" button just below the "Mark as Done" button. Then mark it as done so I can give you some feed back. If you get stuck then please feel free to port into the Google Meet.
Some things I would like to hear:
A. Large Ensemble Music
B. All Region Audition music
C. Scales (D Major, C Major, or E Melodic Minor)
*If you are working on the C major scale video the actual playing of the scale starts about half way through the video. Apologies for singing a bit out of tune at parts.  The fingerboard mapping portion of this is actually a very helpful thing to do. If you are struggling with a scale then I highly recommend making your own fingerboard map.
**Yes, I know this is just cello but I have not finished my work with the other instruments yet. This virtual session came up a bit faster than I could put the video together.
